Pinellas County is the seventh-largest county in Florida by population and the second-smallest county by geographical area. It is located along the Gulf Coast west of Tampa Bay. While it was initially part of Hillsborough County, it split in 1912. As a result, it became its region within the Tampa metropolitan area.
